Goodbye Winter and Soil Drenching

It looks like winter has finally left us, after one last frigid weekend. We covered everything but the very top leaves on our Japanese maples got nipped by frost as did a hibiscus. I think they will recover, however.

Yesterday I applied a soil drench to all of our crape myrtles to fight Crape Myrtle Bark Scale. Last year one of ours got infested pretty badly and two other showed some signs of infestation. I am hoping to get it under control and keep it under control this year.

This coming weekend is the usual average last frost day so I may gamble and set out tomato plants as well as plant beans and squash. We will see how the weather looks later on in the week. I might have to postpone until the following weekend.

Happy Spring!
